New Year New You: How to Prepare for Plastic Surgery in 2021

The new year is often associated with reinvention, discovery, and change and a great cosmetic procedure can be a fantastic way to start your 2021. Aristocrat is here to get you feeling confident and rejuvenated, and ready to take on whatever the next 365 days have to offer. But just because you don’t know exactly what the future holds, doesn’t mean you have to go in blind. There are plenty of things you can do right now to prepare and make sure you get the best results out of your 2021 procedure.

Preparing for your consultation

Whether you’re new to the cosmetic surgery scene or you’ve had procedures before, a consultation with someone like American Board of Plastic Surgery certified Doctor Kevin Tehrani will help you pinpoint your exact goals and the perfect procedure to meet them. Here are some things you can do even before you take this first step.

Know your goals

We may have experts that know the ins-and-outs of all the latest procedures, but you’re the only one who truly knows what you want. The clearer your goals are in your own head and the more comprehensively you can explain them, the more likely it is that Dr. Tehrani will be able to make those goals a reality for you.

Research your procedure ahead of time

You might not know exactly what you want, but look into the options that are available and jot down any questions you have so you have a good idea of the possibilities at your disposal.

Have your medical history information ready

Make sure to note medical problems that run in your immediate family, any and all medical conditions you have, and a full list of medications, supplements, and vitamins you take to support your health. You may even want to ask if you can fill out the medical paperwork beforehand so you can really take your time with it. The more comprehensive, the better!

Ask, ask, ask.

As well as finding the best path to make your desired appearance a reality, the goal of a consultation is to help you feel as comfortable and confident as possible in your future procedure. So before you come in, think of all the questions you might want to raise and don’t be afraid to ask them.

Preparing for your procedure

Once you have a plan, it’s all about preparation. Aristocrat prides itself on providing clients with all the information they need to have a successful surgery experience–during the procedure, pre, and post-op–but the actual preparation is up to you. Here are a few things you should do before you come in for your appointment.

Avoid certain medications

To minimize bleeding and bruising, avoid aspirin, Advil, Entrophen, ASA, 222s, Naprosyn, Vioxx and other anti-inflammatories for three weeks before surgery. Tylenol is okay to use if needed, but it is best to completely cut all medicines. If there are medications you must continue, you can discuss them with Dr. Tehrani during your consultation and find a unique solution for you.

Begin taking prescription medications

In the opposite vein, you will want to begin taking any medications prescribed by Dr. Tehrani. At your consultation, you will get guidance as to whether there will be any necessary changes or additions to your regimen and will receive a plan to follow leading up to the date of your procedure.

Eat healthily and exercise

It’s important to have your body in the best shape possible before going into your procedure. This means eating a healthy balanced diet full of vitamins and minerals, making sure you’re eating enough, and moving, but not overworking, your body.

Stop smoking as far in advance of your procedure as you can

The longer something takes to heal, the more noticeable the scar will be. Because nicotine slows healing, it results in increased scar formation. As a general rule, smokers tend to have more noticeable scarring after plastic surgery.

Have everything ready for the day of the procedure

This includes filling any prescriptions you’ll need for recovery beforehand, having everything you need packed to go to your appointment, setting up a place you can comfortably recover when you return home, and making sure you have someone to pick you up after your surgery and stay with you as your anesthesia wears off.

Products to optimize your procedure

In addition to our fully integrated aesthetic surgery office and medical spa, Aristocrat Plastic Surgery offers everything from conventional skincare products to enhancement products, and even products designed specifically for pre or post-op use. Here are some of those products specifically designed for use by those preparing for a cosmetic procedure. All of these can be purchased through Aristocrat’s website and online store.

APS Vitamin K Cream

This cream is perfect pre- and post-op to help visibly minimize and heal bruising. But even long after surgery, it can be helpful for decreasing the appearance of dark eye circles, reducing skin redness, and minimizing the appearance of purpura. Featured ingredients include Vitamin K for healing and healthy blood capillary formation; lecithin, a water binding agent derived from plant cells; and glycerin to help skin maximize moisture by absorbing moisture from the air and attracting water to the skin.

APS Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen SPF 50

Sunscreen is important all the time, but it’s especially important before and after a cosmetic procedure. So for optimal protection, this easy spray sunscreen provides UVA & UVB SPF 50+ coverage while including a host of antioxidants like Green Tea Polyphenols, Resveratrol, Vitamin C, Emblica, and Co-Q10. It’s free of alcohol, oil, fragrance, paraben, and pabas, and water resistant for 40 minutes. Plus, the 360 degree omni-directional spray bottle allows it to spray upside down. No matter what gravity decides to do, you can rest assured your skin is protected.

APS Daily Defense Sunscreen SPF50

For those with sensitive and acne or rosacea-prone skin, this gentle sunscreen provides the same Broad spectrum UVA & UVB SPF 50+ coverage while staying gentle, weightless, and residue-free. It’s still enriched with antioxidants like green tea polyphenols, resveratrol, vitamin A,C,E, Emblica, and CoQ10 to provide exceptional broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and quench free radicals.

APS Post Procedure Balm

This post-procedural balm is best for sensitive skin that has just undergone a procedure. By relieving redness and dryness, skin can heal effectively with little pain. It protects and heals compromised skin, relieves discomfort, reduces redness, oozing, crusting, itching and extreme dryness after ablative procedures. It also assists in healing: repairing the skin barrier function, accelerating the re-epithelialization of wounds, and soothing radiation burns. It’s non-toxic, non-steroidal, non-sensitizing and non-irritating, free of gluten, paraben and fragrances, and full of antioxidants.
