Speaking to the Telegraph, Oscar winner Kate Winslet said she will never give in to pressure to go “under the knife.”
“It goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up and what I consider to be natural beauty,” says the 35-year old Hollywood star.
In her criticizing of cosmetic surgery, she is joined by two more Oscar winners, Emma Thompson, 52, and Rachel Weisz, 41.
“I’m not fiddling about with myself,” said Ms. Thompson, 52. “We’re in this awful youth-driven thing now where everybody needs to look 30 at 60.”
But not all Hollywood actresses are willing to join the fight. Gwyneth Paltrow, 38, said she will consider breast surgery.
“I still refuse to use silicone, Botox or any other of those gimmicks of pure vanity, but a breast correction after breast feeding – why not?” she says. “There’s actually nothing else to restore the original condition, is there?”
The whole debate for and against plastic surgery is quite interesting, especially in Hollywood where high beauty standards are praised and rewarded. You may argue that the Oscar winning actresses mentioned above are actually all beautiful women. Maybe Ms. Winslet has a curvy body, but her charming looks make up for it. Not every woman is blessed like that. Why shouldn’t a woman improve herself with a modern medicine, and with that improve her lifestyle, career and happiness?
