When asked what they would change, 62% of mothers said they would go for a “mommy makeover”, which includes tummy tucks, breast augmentations and breast lifts, according to the survey by American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
“In the last decade we’ve seen women’s attitudes about cosmetic surgery change. Today women are not afraid to admit that they love their children, but they wish their bodies looked the way they did before their first pregnancies. And they’re not afraid to acknowledge that they may need a little help beyond a healthy diet and exercise,” said ASPS President Phillip Haeck, MD.
That includes 38-year old mother Dana Van Gray who had a tummy tuck and breast augmentation procedures one year after she had her last child.
“I didn’t like my stomach. I started noticing a muffin top and I thought – why wait? I’m young, I’m healthy and I want to look good now,” Van Gray said.
Since plastic surgery is more accepted and more affordable, more mothers are becoming interested in it, especially the younger mothers in their 30’s because they still want to look as they feel – young and beautiful.
ASPS encourages women to wait six months to a year after their last child before they undergo “mommy makeovers” to lose weight before they do some procedures, and to find a board-certified plastic surgeon to consult with and to do the procedures.
